Audi S8 Tuning: Remap Your S8 Yourself with the NGM App
The Audi S8 D4 hides a lot of untapped potential in its software, and the NGM App lets you unlock it on your own. You flash the calibrated Stage 1 file straight to the engine control unit through the OBD2 port, with no workshop appointment, no ECU removal and no chip swap. Two variants are supported: the S8 D4 with 520 PS built from 2013-2018 and the S8 Plus D4 with 605 PS built from 2015-2017, both powered by the 4.0 EA824 engine (all power figures on this page are metric PS). The only hardware you need is the NGM OBD Adapter, a one-time purchase, plus the NGM App on your iOS or Android phone.
Before you start: driving with optimized maps is not permitted on public roads. The files are intended exclusively for use on closed race tracks. The optimization can void your vehicle's type approval and the manufacturer warranty, and you use the software at your own risk.
Audi S8 Stage 1, and What About Stage 2?
Both S8 variants share the EA824 engine, and both end up at the same Stage 1 ceiling. The file is still calibrated for your exact variant:
- S8 D4 (4.0, 520 PS and 750 Nm stock, 2013-2018): Stage 1 raises the output to up to 660 PS and 1000 Nm.
- S8 Plus D4 (4.0, 605 PS and 750 Nm stock, 2015-2017): Stage 1 also delivers up to 660 PS and 1000 Nm.
Please note: all maximum power figures were measured with 102 octane fuel and represent the maximum achievable output.
There is no Stage 2 for the Audi S8, neither for the S8 D4 nor for the S8 Plus. At 660 PS and 1000 Nm this model has reached its software limit, and the app does not offer anything beyond that. For the S8 the All-in-One license therefore covers Stage 1 for the engine control unit. It comes as a download and is bound by VIN to exactly one vehicle, which the app identifies automatically.
Audi S8 Pops and Bangs: Sound as a License
If the factory soundtrack feels too polite, the separate Sound license adds sound functions such as pops and bangs (crackles) to your S8. It is flashed through the same NGM OBD Adapter and the same app as the performance software, and like every license it is a download tied by VIN to your specific vehicle.
Please note: vehicles built before 2015 are unfortunately not able to produce overrun pops (deceleration crackles). This affects the early build years of the S8 D4. The S8 Plus was only built from 2015 onwards and is not affected.
How Software Tuning Works on the Audi S8
You do not have to drive anywhere to put Stage 1 on your S8, the whole process comes down to four steps:
- Plug the NGM OBD Adapter into the OBD2 port of your S8.
- Open the NGM App on your iOS or Android smartphone and connect it to the adapter.
- The app reads the VIN and automatically detects whether it is looking at an S8 or an S8 Plus.
- Choose your license and start the flash, the file goes straight onto the control unit.
Every license is valid for exactly one vehicle, locked to its VIN. Tuning data for the Audi S8 is usually available right away. Only if the app has never been used with your vehicle and the data has to be prepared first, it typically takes around 5 days, 14 at most.
Audi S8 Tuning: Frequently Asked Questions
How much power does an Audi S8 make with Stage 1?
With Stage 1 the Audi S8 D4 reaches up to 660 PS and 1000 Nm, starting from 520 PS and 750 Nm stock. The S8 Plus D4 begins at 605 PS and also reaches up to 660 PS and 1000 Nm. The file is flashed onto the engine control unit through the NGM App and calibrated for your exact variant.
Is there a Stage 2 for the Audi S8?
No, the NGM App does not offer a Stage 2 for the S8 D4 or the S8 Plus D4. Stage 1 with up to 660 PS and 1000 Nm is the highest available level for this model and is fully covered by the All-in-One license.
Can I drive my tuned Audi S8 on public roads?
No, driving with optimized maps is not permitted on public roads, the files are intended exclusively for closed race tracks. The optimization can void your type approval and the manufacturer warranty, and you use it at your own risk.
Which Audi S8 models does the NGM App support?
Supported are the Audi S8 D4 with 520 PS built from 2013 to 2018 and the S8 Plus D4 with 605 PS built from 2015 to 2017. Both run the 4.0 EA824 engine. The app reads your VIN and automatically recognizes which variant you drive.
What does Audi S8 tuning cost with the NGM App?
You find the current prices in the license cards at the top of this page, shown in your currency. The All-in-One license and the Sound license are downloads bound to your VIN. On top of that you need the NGM OBD Adapter as a one-time purchase, the only hardware required for flashing.
Do pops and bangs work on every Audi S8?
Not on every one. Vehicles built before 2015 are not able to produce overrun pops (deceleration crackles), which affects the early S8 D4. The S8 Plus was built from 2015 onwards and is not affected. The sound functions are part of the separate Sound license.
How quickly can I flash my Audi S8?
In most cases right away, because tuning data for the Audi S8 is usually available immediately. Only if the NGM App has never been used with your vehicle and the data has to be prepared first, it typically takes around 5 days and a maximum of 14 days.
