VW T-Roc Tuning: Flash Stage 1 and Stage 2 Yourself
The VW T-Roc runs on the EA888 engine, and that is exactly what the NGM App delivers calibrated maps for. You flash Stage 1 or Stage 2 onto the engine control unit yourself through the OBD2 port, with no workshop appointment, no ECU removal and no chip swap. All you need is the NGM App for iOS or Android plus the NGM OBD Adapter as a one-time purchase. Three variants are supported: the T-Roc 2.0 TFSI with 190 PS (2019-2020), the T-Roc R with 300 PS (2019-2020) and the T-Roc R Gen 4 with 300 PS (2020-2024). Power figures on this page are metric PS. One thing to know about the late build years: the facelift from model year 2024 onwards is no longer supported.
Before you start: driving with optimized maps is not permitted on public roads. The files are intended exclusively for use on closed race tracks. The optimization can void your vehicle's type approval and the manufacturer warranty, and you use it at your own risk.
VW T-Roc Stage 1 and Stage 2: Power by Variant
On the T-Roc it pays to look closely at the generation: both R variants leave the factory with the same 300 PS, but they run different engine generations and therefore get different files with their own maximum figures.
- T-Roc 2.0 TFSI (190 PS and 320 Nm stock, EA888 Gen3, 2019-2020): Stage 1 up to 230 PS and 410 Nm, Stage 2 up to 245 PS and 460 Nm
- T-Roc R (300 PS and 400 Nm stock, EA888 Gen3, 2019-2020): Stage 1 up to 375 PS and 490 Nm, Stage 2 up to 390 PS and 510 Nm
- T-Roc R Gen 4 (300 PS and 400 Nm stock, EA888 Gen4, 2020-2024): Stage 1 up to 390 PS and 500 Nm, Stage 2 up to 440 PS and 570 Nm
Please note: all maximum power figures were measured with 102 octane fuel and represent the maximum achievable output.
Stage 1 and Stage 2 come together in the All-in-One license. It is delivered as a download and bound by VIN to exactly one vehicle. On the T-Roc R Gen 4 manufactured from January 2022 onwards, TCU software for the transmission control unit can be installed as well. This requires a one-time TCU bench unlock, which a tuning company has to perform first.
T-Roc Pops and Bangs: The Sound License
Extra power is one side, the right soundtrack is the other. With the Sound license your T-Roc gets the crackles function, meaning pops and bangs on the overrun. You can combine the sound maps with Stage 1 or Stage 2 or run them completely independently of the performance software. Flashing works the same way as with the stages, through the NGM OBD Adapter and the app, and like every license the Sound license is a download bound by VIN to your specific vehicle. And of course the sound functions also belong on closed tracks only.
How to Flash Your VW T-Roc with the NGM App
The whole process happens at your car and takes just a few steps:
- Plug the NGM OBD Adapter into the OBD2 port of your T-Roc. The adapter is the only hardware you need.
- Open the NGM App on your iOS or Android phone and connect it to the adapter.
- The app reads the VIN and automatically identifies which T-Roc it is dealing with, including the two R generations with identical stock power.
- Pick your license and start the flash right from your phone.
Tuning data for the T-Roc is usually available immediately. Only if the app has never been used with your vehicle and the data has to be prepared first, it typically takes around 5 days and no more than 14 days.
T-Roc Tuning: Frequently Asked Questions
How much power does a VW T-Roc R make with Stage 1?
That depends on the generation. The T-Roc R from 2019-2020 (EA888 Gen3) reaches up to 375 PS and 490 Nm with Stage 1, while the T-Roc R Gen 4 from 2020-2024 (EA888 Gen4) goes up to 390 PS and 500 Nm. Stock, both make 300 PS and 400 Nm.
Is T-Roc tuning with the NGM App legal on public roads?
No. Driving with optimized maps is not permitted on public roads, the files are intended exclusively for use on closed race tracks. The optimization can void your type approval and the manufacturer warranty, and you use it at your own risk.
Which T-Roc models does the NGM App support?
Supported are the T-Roc 2.0 TFSI with 190 PS (2019-2020), the T-Roc R with 300 PS (2019-2020) and the T-Roc R Gen 4 with 300 PS (2020-2024). The facelift from model year 2024 onwards is no longer supported.
How much power does Stage 2 add on the T-Roc?
The T-Roc 2.0 TFSI reaches up to 245 PS and 460 Nm with Stage 2. The T-Roc R from 2019-2020 goes up to 390 PS and 510 Nm, and the T-Roc R Gen 4 up to 440 PS and 570 Nm. Both stages are included in the All-in-One license.
How do I know which T-Roc R generation I have?
You do not have to figure that out yourself. The NGM App reads your vehicle's VIN and automatically detects whether your T-Roc R belongs to the 2019-2020 generation or the R Gen 4 from 2020-2024. You only see the files that match your exact car.
Can I tune the gearbox (TCU) on the T-Roc as well?
On the T-Roc R Gen 4 manufactured from January 2022 onwards, TCU software installation is possible. Before the first flash, a tuning company needs to carry out a one-time TCU bench unlock. Once that is done, you load the transmission software onto your car with the NGM App.
What does T-Roc tuning with the NGM App cost?
You will find the prices for your vehicle at the top of this page in the license cards, shown in your currency. The All-in-One license and the Sound license are downloads bound to your VIN, and on top you need the NGM OBD Adapter once as the only required hardware.
