VW Arteon Tuning: App-Based Software Upgrades for Your Gran Turismo

The NGM App brings Arteon tuning to your phone. Instead of booking a workshop, you flash ready-made Stage 1 or Stage 2 maps onto your engine control unit yourself, using the NGM OBD Adapter and the app for iOS and Android. Supported cars range from the 2017 Arteon 2.0 TSI to the 320 PS Arteon R GEN 4; the facelift from model year 2024 onwards is not supported.

Please note: driving with optimized maps is not permitted on public roads and is intended for closed race tracks only. Optimizations can void your vehicle's type approval and the manufacturer warranty. You use them at your own risk.

Stage 1 & 2

VW Arteon Stage 2 and Stage 1: The Numbers for Each Engine

These are the figures the NGM App unlocks on each Arteon engine:

  • Arteon R GEN 4 (2.0, 320 PS, 2020-2023): Stage 1 with 390 PS and 500 Nm, Stage 2 with 440 PS and 570 Nm.
  • Arteon 2.0 TSI GEN 4 (280 PS, 2020-2023): Stage 1 with 390 PS and 500 Nm, Stage 2 with 440 PS and 570 Nm.
  • Arteon 2.0 TSI (280 PS, 2017-2020): Stage 1 with 375 PS and 490 Nm, Stage 2 with 390 PS and 510 Nm.
  • Arteon 2.0 TFSI (190 PS, 2019-2020): Stage 1 with 230 PS and 410 Nm, Stage 2 with 245 PS and 460 Nm.

Please note: all maximum power figures were measured with 102 octane fuel and represent the maximum achievable output.

The All-in-One license is available for the GEN 4 models as well as the earlier Arteon models (2017-2020). On the Arteon 2.0 TSI GEN 4 built from January 2022 onwards, TCU software is available as well, once a tuning company has performed a TCU bench unlock.

Sound

Arteon Tuned Sound: Pops, Bangs and Exhaust Flap Control

Power is only half of an Arteon tuned the NGM way. The Sound license adds an acoustic layer on top, with functions such as pops and bangs and exhaust flap control, so your Arteon sounds as sharp as it accelerates on the track. It is available for the Arteon R GEN 4 and the 2.0 TSI GEN 4 as well as for the 2017-2020 models. You activate it in the app, just like the performance stages.

How it works

How Arteon Tuning Works: Plug In, Connect, Flash

You flash your Arteon in four steps. Plug the NGM OBD Adapter into the OBD2 port, connect the app on your iPhone or Android phone, and the app identifies your exact Arteon by its VIN. Your license is bound to that VIN, so it belongs to exactly one vehicle. Vehicle data is usually available immediately; only if the app has never been used with your car before does data preparation take a few days, up to two weeks in rare cases. After that you flash Stage 1 or Stage 2 whenever you want.

FAQ

Arteon Tuning: Frequently Asked Questions

How much power does a VW Arteon R Stage 2 have?

A VW Arteon R GEN 4 with Stage 2 reaches up to 440 PS and 570 Nm, up from 320 PS and 420 Nm in stock form. Stage 1 already lifts the R to 390 PS and 500 Nm, flashed through the NGM App and the NGM OBD Adapter.

Is Arteon tuning legal on public roads?

No, driving with optimized maps is not permitted on public roads and is intended for closed race tracks only. The optimization can void your type approval and manufacturer warranty, so you use it at your own risk.

What does a VW Arteon Stage 2 license cost?

Stage 2 comes in the All-in-One license together with Stage 1, and you can see the current prices for your vehicle directly at the top of this page in the license cards, in your currency. Add the NGM OBD Adapter and you are set.

Which Arteon models does the NGM App support?

The NGM App supports the Arteon 2.0 TSI (2017-2020), the 2.0 TFSI (2019-2020), the 2.0 TSI GEN 4 (2020-2023) and the Arteon R GEN 4 (2020-2023). The facelift from model year 2024 onwards is not supported.

Can the NGM App also flash the Arteon's transmission (TCU)?

Yes, on the Arteon 2.0 TSI GEN 4 manufactured from January 2022 onwards, TCU software installation is possible. A tuning company must first perform a TCU bench unlock; after that you flash the TCU through the app, just like the ECU.

How fast can I get my Arteon tuned after buying a license?

Usually right away, because vehicle data for the Arteon is available immediately in most cases. Only if the NGM App has never been used with your specific car does data preparation take a few days, up to two weeks in rare cases.
