Cupra Leon Tuning: Flash Your Own Maps with the NGM App
On the Cupra Leon, the extra performance is a software job. With the NGM App you flash calibrated Stage 1 and Stage 2 maps onto the engine control unit yourself, straight through the OBD2 port, with no workshop appointment, no ECU removal and no chip swap. Four variants are supported, all built around the 2.0 TSI (EA888 Gen4): the Leon KL 2.0 TSI with 245 PS (2020-2024) plus the Leon VZ 245 HP, the Leon VZ with 300 PS and the Leon ST VZ with 310 PS (each 2021-2024). All power figures on this page are metric PS. One thing applies across the board: the facelift from model year 2024 onwards is no longer supported.
Before you start: driving with optimized maps is not permitted on public roads. The files are intended for use on closed race tracks only. The optimization can void your vehicle's type approval and the manufacturer warranty, and you use it at your own risk.
Cupra Leon Stage 1 and Stage 2: Figures for All Four Variants
Every Leon variant gets its own files, calibrated for that exact engine. These are the maximum figures:
- Leon KL 2.0 TSI (2.0, 245 PS, 400-420 Nm stock, 2020-2024): Stage 1 up to 300 PS and 470 Nm, Stage 2 up to 320 PS and 500 Nm
- Leon VZ 245 HP (2.0, 245 PS, 370 Nm stock, 2021-2024): Stage 1 up to 300 PS and 470 Nm, Stage 2 up to 320 PS and 500 Nm
- Leon VZ (2.0, 300 PS, 400 Nm stock, 2021-2024): Stage 1 up to 390 PS and 500 Nm, Stage 2 up to 440 PS and 570 Nm
- Leon ST VZ (2.0, 310 PS, 400 Nm stock, 2021-2024): Stage 1 up to 390 PS and 500 Nm, Stage 2 up to 440 PS and 570 Nm
Please note: all maximum power figures were measured with 102 octane fuel and represent the maximum achievable output.
Stage 1 and Stage 2 come together in the All-in-One license. It is a download, bound by VIN to exactly one vehicle, so the app recognizes your Leon on its own. If your Leon was manufactured from January 2022 onwards, you can also install TCU software on the gearbox control unit. This requires a one-time TCU bench unlock, carried out beforehand by a tuning company.
Cupra Leon Pops and Bangs: The Sound License
Extra power deserves the right soundtrack. The Sound license is available separately from the All-in-One license and brings pops and bangs (crackles) to your Cupra Leon. It is flashed exactly like the performance software: with the NGM OBD Adapter, straight from the app, delivered as a download bound by VIN to your specific vehicle. And just like the maps, the sound functions belong on closed tracks only.
How Cupra Leon Tuning Works Through the OBD2 Port
Tuning your Cupra Leon takes neither a workshop nor specialist knowledge. Four steps are all you need:
- Plug the NGM OBD Adapter into your Leon's OBD2 port.
- Open the NGM App on your iOS or Android phone and connect it to the adapter.
- The app reads the VIN and automatically detects which Leon variant you drive.
- Pick your license and start the flash. The file goes straight onto the control unit.
The NGM OBD Adapter is a one-time purchase and the only hardware you need. Tuning data for the Cupra Leon is usually available immediately. Only if the app has never been used with your vehicle and the data has to be prepared first does it typically take around 5 days, 14 at most.
