The facelift model from model year 2024 onwards is no longer supported. TCU software installation is now possible for models manufactured from January 2022 onwards; however, a TCU bench unlock must first be performed by a tuning company.
Currently, only pre-facelift models are supported.
The Cupra Formentor VZ5 requires an unlock of the engine control unit (ECU) before tuning can be performed. For this vehicle, the ECU must be sent to the company Autotuner to be unlocked. Without this unlock, NGM app tuning is unfortunately not possible. Cupra Formentor tuning with the NGM App
The Cupra Formentor responds well to software tuning, and with the NGM App you flash Stage 1 or Stage 2 maps onto your ECU yourself. Supported are the Formentor 2.0 with 245 PS, the Formentor 4 Drive with 310 PS (both 2021-2024) and the Formentor VZ5 with 390 PS (2021-2025, pre-facelift only). The facelift from model year 2024 onwards is not supported. All power figures are given in metric PS.
One thing up front: driving with optimized maps is not permitted on public roads and belongs on closed race tracks only. The optimization can void your vehicle's type approval and the manufacturer warranty. You use it at your own risk.
Cupra Formentor Stage 1 and Formentor Stage 2 in numbers
Both stages are ECU calibrations you flash through the app:
- Formentor 2.0, 245 PS (2021-2024): Stage 1 takes you to 300 PS and 470 Nm, Stage 2 to 320 PS and 500 Nm.
- Formentor VZ (4 Drive 2.0, 310 PS, 2021-2024): Stage 1 delivers 390 PS and 500 Nm, Stage 2 up to 440 PS and 570 Nm.
- Formentor VZ5 2.5, 390 PS (2021-2025): Stage 1 lifts it to 460 PS and 600 Nm. Stage 2 is not available for the VZ5.
Please note: all maximum power figures were measured with 102 octane fuel and represent the maximum achievable output.
The All-in-One license covers both stages and is bound by VIN to one vehicle. On the 2.0 (245 PS) and the 4 Drive (310 PS) built from January 2022 onwards, TCU software can be installed too, after a one-time TCU bench unlock by a tuning company.
Sound: pops, bangs and exhaust flap control
Tuning is not only about numbers. With the Sound license the NGM App adds an experience layer to your Cupra Formentor: sound functions such as pops and bangs on the overrun and control of the exhaust flaps, so the soundtrack matches the added performance. The sound functions are also intended for use on closed tracks only. The Sound license is flashed the same way as the performance software and is also bound to your VIN.
How Formentor tuning works: adapter, app, flash
Formentor tuning with the NGM App takes four steps: plug the NGM OBD Adapter into the OBD2 port, pair the app on your iOS or Android phone with the adapter, let the app identify your exact vehicle by its VIN, then flash the stage your license covers. Vehicle data is usually available immediately; only if the app has never been used with your vehicle does preparing the data typically take around 5 days, 14 at most.
